Age-Adjusted Death Rate due to Chronic Lower Respiratory Diseases

County: Clark
Measurement Period: 2018-2020
This indicator shows the age-adjusted death rate per 100,000 population due to chronic lower respiratory diseases. Chronic lower respiratory diseases include asthma, emphysema and all other chronic lower respiratory diseases.

Why is this important?

Chronic lower respiratory disease (CLRD) refers to a diverse group of disorders characterized by airway obstruction, causing shortness of breath and impaired lung function, and includes asthma, emphysema, bronchitis, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. CLRD is a leading cause of death and generally occurs among older adults. While mortality rates of other leading causes of death have decreased, deaths due to CLRD continue to rise. Smoking cigarettes as well as exposure to secondhand smoke and chemical irritants are important risk factors. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over 30 billion dollars are spent annually on chronic lower respiratory diseases.
