Using GIS to Address Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention
Whereas significant progress has been made in reducing mortality and morbidity from heart disease, stroke, and other chronic conditions in Southern Nevada, the leading mortality causes among residents are generally chronic in nature. As well, injury contributes to a significantly higher proportion of mortality in Southern Nevada than in the rest of the nation. This map series uses data from the Nevada vital records registry, the Behavioral Risk Factors Surveillance System, and hospital discharge as well as emergency department visits databases to inform preventive actions and community prioritization with regard to chronic disease prevention and health promotion.
